Selling a Car in California

How to Sell a Car in California

You’re a California resident, and it’s time for selling the car with its dings, front bumper dent, and failing transmission. Do you want to spend the time, money, and effort to navigate this selling channel independently, or would you find it easier to let someone else take on the challenge? The next step is deciding how to sell my car in California.

Why not sell it? DamagedCars.com has been buying California’s damaged cars since 1985. We buy cars after collision damage, flood or storm damage, theft damage, mechanical problems or vandalism. DamagedCars.com makes it easy to sell your damaged car and get money for it without delay.

If you decide to sell the car on your own, it’s a private sale. To pursue this option, you need to find a marketing method to locate your audience of potential buyers and get visibility. If not, no one will know you’re selling the vehicle. So you’re tasked with finding a marketing venue. This avenue can take such forms as an intricate Internet campaign in an automobile marketplace; a newspaper ad under “Used Cars” in the classifieds; or even the old fashion way of posting it on a piece of paper for placement at your local community bulletin board. No matter which venue is selected, it’s necessary to design a notice of sale to attract interested parties. Now, it’s all about the wait-and-see approach.

You endure the time it takes until and if you receive contact from interested car buyers. Once you locate a potential purchaser, the party has to accept the car with the damage and imperfections. If agreed upon, there’s a contract to be completed and the processing of paperwork with the California DMV for selling a car. These forms include the release of ownership through the title certificate; a valid smog certification, if applicable; and odometer reading statement. Finally, once all of this paperwork is finished, you receive payment from the party in one form or another.

Is Selling a Car in Califorina Worth it

Let’s say you decide not to take this unpredictable and timely path, but instead to forge ahead with a third-party seller. These service providers take on the responsibility of finding the right car buyers. They range from automobile dealerships to auctioneers. After you locate them, it’s time to scout out for any interested parties. These potential purchasers are challenged with whether or not the car is marketable, and whether or not to assume the debt obligation. At this point, you may be traveling from dealer to dealer with only the possibility that one of them will buy your vehicle. It’s not a sure sale. There’s some uncertainty as to how marketable your car will be to these purchasers, especially if it’s damaged. This is a risk, so it’s up to you to decide if the time and effort are worth it.

The unpredictable journey of selling your used and blemished vehicle, either as a private seller or through a third-party agent, ends when you deal with a sure sale route. The nationwide car buying service, damagedcars.com, provides this solution. They purchase your vehicle in “as-is” condition. There are no necessary auto repairs to complete, unpredictable purchase outcomes, and work to generate the entire sale process all on your own. All of these steps are avoided with a definite sale. You simply fill out a brief online form regarding the imperfect car, agree upon a price for it, send proof of ownership and identification, schedule a convenient and hassle-free pick up of the vehicle at your location, then get paid. What an easy win-win opportunity. So when you’re weighing the selling options of your vehicle, there’s always the quick and less complicated way of damagedcars.com.

Sell a Car in California - Title

Every state has unique requirements for transferring a title. California is no different. When transferring a title, accuracy is key. California titles require two signatures. Both are on the front of the title. The first is in the center of the title and is labeled "Signature of Registered Owner" A second signature is required for the odometer statement. The field is labeled "Transferor Seller Signature" located on the lower left. Anyone listed as “Owner” on the front of the title must sign as “Seller” using the exact same name shown on the title. Only the “Owner” can sell a vehicle and the state of California requires a title for the sale of any car, truck or SUV. So, if you don’t have the title, before you sell your damaged car, you need to visit the nearest California Department of Motor Vehicles office for a duplicate title.

If you live in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Van Nuys, Santa Monica, Inglewood, Whittier, Downey, Long Beach or anywhere else, DamagedCars.com will buy your wrecked, salvage or mechanically defective vehicle. Submit a quote to start the process to get cash for your car in Los Angeles and money for your damaged late-model car, truck or SUV in Woodland Hills. We’ll even work with you on what to do after a car accident to get you the best value for your car.
